      Long Description: Version 4.2 of the Berkeley Data Base library which offers (key/value) storage with optional concurrent access or transactions interface. This port will install the AES (American Encryption Standard) enabled version. Utilities are included in the distribution to convert v1.85 databases to v4.2 databases, and a backwards compatible API is provided to maintain compatibility with programs using the v1.85 interface.

    If you haven't already installed Darwin Ports, you can find easy instructions for doing so at the main Darwin Ports page.

    Once Darwin Ports has been installed, in a terminal window and while online, type the following and hit return:


      %  cd /opt/local/bin/portslocation/dports/db42
      % sudo port install db42
      Password:
    You will then be prompted for your root password, which you should enter. You may have to wait for a few minutes while the software is retrieved from the network and installed for you. Y ou should see something that looks similar to:

      ---> Fetching db42
      ---> Verifying checksum for db42
      ---> Extracting db42
      ---> Configuring db42
      ---> Building db42 with target all
      ---> Staging db42 into destroot
      ---> Installing db42
    - Make sure that you do not close the terminal window while Darwin Ports is working. Once the software has been installed, you can find further information about using db42 with these commands:
      %  man db42
      % apropos db42
      % which db42
      % locate db42
